I  believe that the song is based on one of the band members former lives when they lived in a different city. From researching the meaning behind the lyrics I have discovered that the song was written by the lead singer Anthony Kiedis, he came about writing this song when looking in the past on his drug addiction after 3 years of sobriety. In the song the phrase "I don't ever want to feel how i did that day, Take me to the place I love". This refers to his memories and how he wants to stop thinking about his depression, anxiety and addiction and wants to get back to reality known as the place he loves, surrounded by his friends, family and being without drugs for 3 years.

The name 'Under the bridge' highlights where he spent his time in his city, under the bridge doing drugs. This means that during my video I will feature a bridge where drug use takes place. This will directly link to the meaning of the song and the lyrics therefore it will be a narrative scene. The bridge would be used more than once to signify the before and after his drug addiction. Drug use will have to be mimicked in order to link to the lyrics "Under the bridge downtown, Is where I drew blood".

The first verse focuses on loneliness, this is projected by the use of lyrics such as " Sometimes I feel like, My only friend" and "Lonely as I am, Together we cry". Opening scenes will be melancholic and feature loneliness and depression. The location of these shots could be under the bridge and in the city area as mentioned throughout the song, there will also be more scenic shots as walking through the hills and wind are mentioned throughout the song. The character could be reminiscing on the city therefore he could feature a companion as he is no longer lonely. This companion could be a friend or something as basic as a dog.

The second verse focuses on loneliness and how he felt when he was in the city. Lyrics such as " 'Cause she knows who I am" refer how he grew up in the city and has more of an emotional connection towards the city. There are also lyrics used such as " She sees my good deeds" and in my opinion I believe this highlights how not only does the city see his good deeds but also sees the negative things he does such as his drug addiction and his failing relationship which all took place when he was living in the city therefore he associates the city with those times.

The third verse relates to the second as it also focuses on loneliness with lyrics such as "I'm all alone". Similarly to the second verse this relates to how he has lost everything and he is as low as he can get. Due to his drug addiction he has lost his family and girlfriend which is basically his whole life. He has no one except his city although he wants to go back to the place he loves which is sobriety. Anthony Kiedis openly admits he prefers life without drugs and would never think of going back to substance abuse.

The last verse focus' on his drug addiction, this is highlighted through the use of lyrics such as "Under the bridge downtown, Is where I drew some blood" and "I could not get enough". This projects his addiction of substance abuse as he injects a mixture of cocaine and morphine known as speed balling. He also says "Forgot about my love", this could mean a variety of things but in my opinion it relates to how he forgot about his girlfriend at the time and disregarded her feelings whilst also disregarding the feelings his family and friends have for him when they know he "Gave is life away".
